Authenticity toolkit — how it differs

Pick by situation: which tools, in what order

A marketplace seller’s product photos look too perfect

Start with the marketplace checklist. A below-market price, a push to another messenger and a demand for payment upfront catch most scams before the photo matters. Then reverse-search the photo for other listings, and check whether it is AI-generated last. A stolen photo is a real photo, so an AI detector will not flag it. Order: Marketplace Listing Check → Reverse Image Search Guide → AI image & video detector

A text posing as a courier, bank or agency includes a link

Don’t tap it. Copy the whole message into the text-message check, which reads the sender format and wording together. To check only the address, use the link check. If the page asks you to install an app (APK), treat that alone as a scam signal, whatever the link result says. Order: Is this message a scam? → Is this link safe?

Someone you met online is pushing an investment or a transfer

Run the romance-scam checklist on how the conversation has gone. Reverse-search their profile photo for accounts under other names. If they avoid video calls, or a call looked odd, a screenshot of that call can go through the image detector. Order: Romance Scam & Catfish Check → Reverse Image Search Guide → AI image & video detector

You are buying a concert or sports ticket from a person

Use the ticket-resale checklist for seat details, booking proof and payment method. Booking screenshots are easy to edit, so run the screenshot check as well. Order: Ticket Resale Scam Check → Fake Screenshot Check

An “official” account says you won a giveaway

First run the handle check for look-alike characters (l and I, rn and m). Then paste the DM into the giveaway check to catch upfront shipping fees or requests for personal details. Real brand accounts don’t announce a win by DM and then ask for money. Order: Impostor Handle Check → Giveaway DM Check

An essay or cover letter reads like AI wrote it

The text check measures statistical style only, so its score starts a conversation and is not evidence. Short texts are unreliable, and edited AI text or formal human writing are easy to misjudge. Never use it alone for grading or hiring. Order: Was this written by AI?

Every review on a shop reads the same

Paste several reviews of one product into the review check together. It compares repeated sentence structure and the share of over-the-top praise, and a batch gives a much clearer signal than a single review. Order: Is this review real?

You worry your photos could end up in deepfakes or AI training

Before posting, strip location data (EXIF) and apply protection with the photo-protect tool. Reverse-search to find copies already online, and register the original if you need a timestamped record that you had it first. Order: Is your photo leaking data? → Reverse Image Search Guide → Original Registration Notary
